Monterey local Peter Davi drowns in giant surf.Longtime Monterey-area surfer Peter Davi, 45, drowned today in 30-foot-plus surf at Ghost Tree, (aka Pescadero Point) off Pebble Beach.
Davi -- along with former Maverick's Contest winner Anthony Tashnick -- attempted to paddle-surf the giant waves while a dozen tow-teams caught some of the biggest surf ever seen here.
While it's unclear at this point, according to reports, Davi caught a smaller wave and then his leash broke and drowned attempting to swim to shore; surfers and photographers lost sight of him until Santa Cruz surfer Anthony Ruffo spotted him face down in Stillwater Cove.
