Skateboarding's Soul Can Also Be Found In West Virginia

I wanted to share with the readers of "The Skateboarder's Journal" an article written by Lenny Poage of West Virginia. It's about a fun little event he throws on the day after Thanksgiving, it's called the "WOTT Race", a group of skaters get together and...well, I leave the rest to Lenny.

Working off the Turkey 2007
By Lenny Poage

On Saturday, November 24, 2007, the Huntington-area Outlaw Slalom Skaters/ West Virginia Chapter of the DownHillBillies held the 3rd Annual Working off the Turkey race (WOTT). As the title states, we’ve been having this in SOME form the weekend after Thanksgiving for 3 years. Previously, it has been a jam session where a few of us got together, ran some cones, and called it a day. (click to continue)

Newton's Playground - Racing Event

"AN apple fell on some bloke's head, budda-bing budda-boong, he came up with the law of gravity."

So reads the promotional material for Newton's Playground, a new festival named in honour of the 17th-century English physicist Sir Isaac Newton.

The event, to be held next year, is not for nerdy science boffins fussing over complex theories of universal gravity. Rather, it is for extreme sports enthusiasts who will don helmets and zoom around the tight corners of Bathurst's Mount Panorama at speeds of up to 125kmh. More.
